As Angel’s oldest friend (since 7th grade!!) and certified soul sister, Destiny is serving as her Matron of Honor.

Angel on Destiny: “My friendship with Destiny is the most fortifying and rewarding gift. No other person has known me as long or as deeply as her. Destiny knows my every secret, fear, desire, and dream. I am privileged to know her heart just as deeply—it is pure and overflowing with love and intrigue. In September 2023, I was honored to be the Maid of Honor at Destiny’s wedding in our hometown of Tucson, Arizona. I am so blessed to have my friend by my side on my own special day.”

A man who needs no introduction, Greg is standing by Tyree’s side as his Best Man.

Tyree on Greg: “Greg has always been more family than friend, so I think of him more as my brother than my Best Man. For the last ten years, he’s been the open-minded and insightful support system everyone should have in their lives. He was there cheering me on during undergrad; he was doing the same during law school. So it’s only right that my closest friend will be front and center on Wedding Day. Trust that Greg is the most funny and charming guy you’ll meet this weekend. And, if you’re lucky, he’ll share some gems on how to pick a good wine.”

As Angel’s college sister and perfect match, Surraya is serving as her Maid of Honor.

Angel on Surraya: “As my freshman-year roommate at Howard, Surraya met me at the most pivotal point in my life. I was so scared, sensitive, and young, but I was ambitious and desparate to succeed. Surraya believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. She protected my heart and cheered me on through every phase of my academic journey. She knows the best and worst versions of me. Our friendship has taught me that true love is not reserved for romantic connections. Rather, it is the bonding of two kindred spirits.”

One of the fiercest and most principled people we know, Kyle is serving as a groomsman.

Tyree on Kyle: “What can be said about Kyle that can’t be said about the honey badger? Known for being intelligent, fearless, and not to be trifled with, K. Kent exhibits an admirable strength of character that we should all strive toward. In fact, if you find yourself in a chat with him about anything of substance, you’ll be certain to leave Chicago with an entirely new perspective. More than any of that, let’s hope he grows out that killer mustache for the festivities.”

Beautiful, spunky, and graceful, Katya is serving as a bridesmaid.

Angel on Katya: “I love a strong, dynamic, opinionated woman, and Katya is just that. Katya and I bond over so many things—how deeply we feel, how hard we love, how ambitiously we strive. Our love for all things poetic, beautiful, authentic, interesting, and romantic binds the two of us together to create one of my most cherished friendships. By the way, if there are any competitions over the weekend, you’re going to want to be on the same team as Katya. Just trust me.”

A strikingly charming and quick-witted man, Will is serving as a groomsman.

Tyree on Will: “It is truly impossible to have a cross word to say about Will. If he’s not your cup of tea, then you must just not like tea. On top of being effortlessly smart, he manages to fit in wherever he goes with full authenticity. He’s also adept at all the things you’ve always wondered about: motorcycling, biking, skiing, hiking, and cutting-off-your-locs-after-a-long-period-of-time-and-then-just-suddenly-having-short-hair-as-if-you’ve-always-had-short-hair-and-still-looking-natural. He’s a man of many talents.”

A walking embodiment of joy and kindness, Mayan is serving as a bridesmaid.

Angel on Mayan: “Mayan’s spirit precedes her. The first time I saw her bright, beautiful smile (with that perfect Haitian gap) I literally fell in love. Mayan radiates positivity. Her wit is sharp and poignant. Her energy is contagious. Our bond is special because we can just as easily spend an evening inside crafting as we can spend a night out until the sun rises. My sister in creativity and temperament, I love you to the moon and back.”

Exemplifying originality and marching to the beat of your own drum, Noah is serving as a groomsman.

Tyree on Noah: “Noah doesn’t care what you think. Noah grew up in Miami but decided that D.C. is better. Noah rides a bicycle that’s nicer than your car. One of Noah’s top artists on Spotify is Drake (I know). But for these reasons, Noah’s the kind of guy you’ll be glad you met. He always has a story to tell, with personal anecdotes fit for a sitcom. And he legitimately cares about doing things right, for himself and for the planet. Noah won’t need to make an effort for you to like him; you just will.”

The resident expert in all things taste, music, and culture, Sydney is serving as a bridesmaid.

Angel on Sydney: “In addition to being one of the coolest people I know, Sydney is also fabulously diligent, driven, funny, and beautiful. The first time I met Sydney at Howard, I remember thinking she was one of the most vibrant women I had ever met. Spoiler alert: 10 years later she still is. As we trade music recommendations and bond over our love for niche, black-owned businesses, I am reminded how lucky I am to know this Georgia Peach.”

One of Tyree’s dearest friends since 2016, Steven is serving as a groomsman.

Tyree on Steven: “Steven and I met by chance at a pre-law summer program almost a decade ago. I may have forgotten what I learned during the program, but I continue to learn from Steven to this day. He is a shining example of what it means to be genuine and to show up for your loved ones. A true friend, we could sit in a room together in silence and have a good time. Steven is a guy I’d run through a wall for, so I’m honored that he’ll be next to me on my biggest day. ”

Undoubtedly the strongest person in the room, Almoni is serving as a bridesmaid.

Angel on Moni: “On September 21, 2015, I posted a photo of Moni and me on my Instagram page with the caption “Spotlight: One of My Future Bridesmaids.” 10 years later, here we are! Moni is the most disciplined, hard-working person I know. She is a savvy business woman, world-class fitness trainer, competitive weight-lifter, and the best mom to our flower girl, Marley Rain. When the burdens of life feel too heavy, I often think of Moni and her fitness videos. If Moni can bench press almost 300 lbs… surely I can finish this legal memo.”

The most introspective man you’ll meet, Dre is serving as a groomsman.

Tyree on Dre: “My favorite thing about Dre is that he understands the value of showing up. And that doesn’t just mean being where he says he will be, which he always is, but it means being present, focused, and engaged. I’ve known Dre for a decade or so, and I’ve never once felt like he was disinterested or wished he was somewhere else—even if he did. It’s a skill that few have and a muscle that more of us could learn to exercise. Time with Dre is time well spent, so I’m honored that he agreed to spend some of his on my big day.”
